Summary

Eligibility

The Youth Grant Scheme is designed to support young people in securing employment in Great Britain. To be eligible to take part in the scheme, employers must: 

·       be operating in Great Britain 

·       registered with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) 

·       actively trading, with a minimum trading history of six months

·       meet the scheme’s eligibility suitability requirements

·       pass the required due diligence checks 

Employers of any size may be able to apply, including sole traders intending to employ. 

Some organisations may not be eligible to apply, including:

·       government departments and related public bodies

·       organisations where there may be safeguarding or reputational concerns

·       further eligibility restrictions may apply.

The grant supports jobs that provide a genuine and suitable opportunity for a young person.

The role must:

·       provide regular, meaningful work

·       be comparable to your normal roles

·       be at least 25 hours per week

·       last at least 4 months

·       pay at least the applicable minimum wage

·       meet all relevant legal requirements

·       not replace an existing worker

To qualify for the grant:

·       the role must be filled by a young person aged 18 to 24

·       the young person must meet the scheme requirements, including having been on Universal Credit for a sustained period.

·       all checks must be completed before any payment is made

Employers are expected to provide accurate and complete information as part of their application. Successful applicants must meet the eligibility criteria set out above, some of which will be assessed through answers to section 4 ‘organisation details’. If an application is considered ineligible due to the answers provided in this section, no further sections will be reviewed or scored.  

Applications are assessed by a central team within the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) before participation in the scheme is confirmed.

Objectives

The aim of the scheme is to encourage the recruitment of young people who may otherwise find it difficult to enter the labour market.

Dates

The grant is open. The government reserves the right to end or change this grant scheme. 

If the grant ends or the grant amount changes, the government will: 

  • aim to provide 4 weeks’ notice 

  • honour claims made before any public announcement, subject to the grant criteria 

Funding is confirmed until September 2028 

Due diligence checks can take up to two weeks, and you will be notified of the outcome following the checks.  

We will respond to vacancies within 1 week. If a vacancy is unfilled within 8 weeks we will discuss with you next steps.

If an application is successful, the employer will be invited to provide details of vacancies and additional vacancies can be submitted without the need to reapply.  

 If an application is not successful, the employer will be notified of the outcome.
